The GMAT (now in its streamlined "GMAT Exam" form since July 2024) is administered by GMAC and is the premier admissions test for MBA and business master's programs. It consists of 3 equally weighted sections with flexible section order and scored 205–805.

Rescheduling

Score Report
Results declared within 3–5 days for CBT, 13 days for paper-based.

21 questions — Problem Solving. No geometry; focuses on arithmetic, algebra.
23 questions — Critical Reasoning & Reading Comprehension (no Sentence Correction).
20 questions — Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics.
- Master Data Insights — the new section (formerly Integrated Reasoning + Data Sufficiency) is unique to GMAT and unfamiliar to most first-timers.
- Practice the "bookmark and edit" feature — you can edit up to 3 answers per section. Use this strategically to maximise your score.
- Choose your section order wisely — the GMAT allows you to pick the order. Most experts recommend Quant → Verbal → Data Insights.
- Build an error log — categorise every wrong answer by sub-topic to identify patterns and fix them systematically.
- Use Official GMAT Prep materials — mba.com official practice exams are the only true adaptive simulations.
The GMAT Exam total score ranges from 205 to 805 (scores end in 5 to distinguish from the older 200–800 scale). Each section is individually scored from 60 to 90. Top business schools typically look for 700+ for competitive admissions.

You can take the GMAT up to 5 times within a 12-month rolling period, with a minimum 16-day gap between attempts. The lifetime limit is 8 attempts.
GMAT scores are valid for 5 years from your test date. Schools typically consider your highest score if you have taken the test multiple times.
The new GMAT Exam removed Sentence Correction and Analytical Writing (AWA). It added Data Insights as a new section and allows you to bookmark and edit up to 3 answers per section. Total time is 2h 15m.
